Hosted by: Bill and
Kathy Hague (Carpe Ventum) and anyone else willing to help. (Dave and
Toni Smith are away that weekend).
The days are getting
shorter, the mosquitoes are going away, and AllenHarbor is making room for
the Ocean State Catalina Association. Once again we will try to
accommodate everyone with town moorings ($20.00) or dock space at the QDYC
(old navy club) ($1.50/ft). Dave Rothfuss and Joe Werbinski will help
out those at the QDYC. We estimate that QDYC will have 8-10 slips
available; if you'd like a slip, contact Bill Hague as soon as
possible (wfhague@cox.net
or 295-8441). If you prefer a mooring contact Allen
Harbor Marina directly (401-294-1212).
Those who wish to embed their anchor in great mud will find that Allen Harbor has the best
holding ground in the bay although the swinging room is getting smaller
(more moorings).
OSCA on shore
festivities will commence at the pavilion starting at 1600 hours: the
General Meeting will be at 1700 and we will be firing up the grills at 1800
hours, and go 'til the hot cider and Captain Morgan runs out. OSCA will
provide plates, cups and utensils, as well as a hot fire and beverages. You
will bring your entrée for the grill and a common dish to share for the
table. On Sunday, coffee & early morning tasty goodies will await you
ashore.
Important Navigational Information
Reason
for change of date for this event:
The
tides on the prior weekend were not as convenient for our Rendezvous. The
channel into Allen Harbor underwent significant shoaling over the
winter. Bill Hague and Dave Rothfuss report that to avoid grounding,
boats should plan to enter and exit Allen Harbor within 3 hours of high
tide. On Saturday the 29th, high tide is at 10:14 a.m. and on Sunday the
30th it is at 11:08 a.m. So plan your arrival and departure times
to be within 3 hours of these times.
Navigational
Note: For
your AllenHarbor entrance, proceed down the middle of the channel slightly
favoring the green side. As you pass the last green buoy, aim for a
point approximately 15-20 feet off the point of the sandbar. Once
past the point of the sandbar, commence an S turn to the North and finish
it by passing south of the No Wake marker at the entrance to the mooring
field.
Nomination and Election of OSCA officers
for 2008-2009

our general meeting at this event will be the election of OSCA officers for
2008-2009.
Anyone
wishing to nominate someone for an OSCA board position can email me at rgendreau1@cox.net. The nominating committe
will present a slate of officers for election at this event.
OSCA
Annual Cruising Award
This
year, we will have to categories for this award - one for a non-retiree and
one for a retiree boat, since there is no way us working guys can ever
match the miles that the lucky retirees can rack up!
If you
wish to be considered for this award, please forward your logbook
tinformation to Roland Gendreau rgendreau1@cox.net
